Sauna etiquette

Correct sauna is a set of behaviors desired in sauna and peri-sauna devices in which we take a bath. These are behaviors that are about affecting our health and achieving the maximum benefits of sauna baths. Before using sauna baths, it is necessary to make sure that there are no health contraindications to them.

For proper sauna, it is necessary to adhere to the following rules:

1. Sauna baths are recommended to be used at least once a week with an optimal amount of 2 hours. The sauna should not be used in a hurry, remember that it is leisure.

2. When using the sauna, we should perform cycles consisting of 3 phases at least 2 times:

  • Body heating (sauna bath),
  • Cooling the body (shower, pool, jacuzzi),
  • Rest.

3. Before entering the sauna, we should:

  • do not overeat, do not eat a hearty meal 2 hours before,
  • strip naked and remove all jewelry, watch and other body sizes,
  • Wash the whole body thoroughly under the shower with soap and water and wipe thoroughly dry.

4. Before each entrance to the sauna room, we should:

  • wipe the whole body thoroughly dry,
  • warm your feet in hot water if they are cold.

5. When staying in a dry sauna room, we should:

  • choose a bench to your capabilities, preferably starting from the lowest and ending with the highest,
  • unroll from the towel so that as much as possible the surface of the body is exposed to temperature and moisture,
  • sit down and hold your legs at trunk level or lie down on a bench,
  • put a towel under each part of the body that is in contact with the wood of the sauna,
  • control the time so as not to stay in the sauna for more than 15 minutes,
  • for a while before leaving the sauna sit down, if you are lying down.

6. After leaving the sauna, we should:

  • rinse sweat from the body under warm water,
  • cool the body by taking a cold shower, remembering that we start cooling from the parts of the body furthest from the heart, only at the end it is recommended to cool the neck and head,
  • after the shower, if possible, use a water tank or ice grotto to thoroughly cool the body,
  • rest at least as much time as you have been in the sauna, preferably lying down
  • replenish liquids.

7. Before leaving the sauna, we should:

  • extend the last rest to a minimum of 15-20 minutes,
  • wash thoroughly the whole body, but without the use of soap,
  • if possible disinfect the feet.
